Scanpacker Changelog

Jul 29, 2026

Print documents for a whole batch or a selection of orders

You can now print a document template — a picking list, packing slip, invoice, anything you've set up — for every order in a batch, or for any orders you tick on the order queue. Each run comes out as a single print job with the pages in order, rather than one job per order.

  • Print any of your templates for every fulfillment order in a batch, from the batch's print menu.
  • Select orders on the order queue and print a document for all of them at once.
  • Two new automatic printing triggers, When a batch is created and When batch picking finishes, for printing a document for each fulfillment order in a batch.

Learn more in our printing guide and our automated printing guide.

Checking, batch picking and order queue improvements

A batch of improvements across checking, batch picking and the order queue:

  • If you check orders without fulfilling them, Scanpacker can now move straight on to the next order after each check. It's a per-user setting you turn on from the finished checking page. Learn more in our auto-advance guide.
  • Anyone can now pack and ship the orders from a batch that someone else picked.
  • You can now remove an order from an open batch, which unstarts it and returns it to the queue.
  • When automatic batching leaves orders out, the message now says why — e.g. unpaid, unpickable or no longer found.
  • Scanpacker now tries harder to avoid leaving a batch unfilled, even when many orders are in an unpickable state.
  • Each user's on-screen scan history now covers their entire browser session, grouped by the page, and can be opened via the corner scan indicator.
  • Improved usability of the navigation sidebar when usign Scanpacker outside of the Shopify admin.

Bug fix: Downloaded activity log data matches on-screen filters, and includes the full range of events.

Bug fix: Order status tabs stay put instead of shifting as the page loads, and tall tables keep their scroll position when you navigate back to them.

Bug fix: Fixed a bug when a fulfillment order is reassigned to a different location in Shopify admin.

Bug fix: Permission denials from batch menu actions now show a message instead of appearing to do nothing.

Bug fix: Screen readers now announce pages in the right language and no longer read out icon names.

Start your next order from Shopify

If you fulfill orders in Shopify after checking them, there's now a faster way back to Scanpacker. Once you've fulfilled an order, choose Start next in Scanpacker from the More actions menu on the Shopify order page to jump straight into checking the next order in your queue.

Order queue and order issue improvements

A few improvements to the order queue and order issues:

  • Navigating to Orders now takes you back to whichever queue tab you were last using — pending, in progress, checked or fulfillments — instead of always starting on the same one.
  • Reported an order issue by mistake, or sorted the problem out yourself? You can now remove an issue you raised, which clears the flag and unlocks the order.

Bug fix: Permission-denied messages now show correctly inside pop-up dialogs instead of leaving them spinning.

Bug fix: The order list refreshes straight away after you report or remove an order issue.

Bug fix: Switching location now keeps your current search and filters instead of resetting them.

Dashboard refresh and quality-of-life improvements

A roundup of smaller improvements from the last few weeks:

  • The dashboard welcome panel is now a getting-started checklist that ticks itself off as you complete setup — first order packed, barcode coverage, printer connected, team added.
  • Navigation now shows live count badges for pending orders, open order issues and picking notes.
  • You can choose your default landing page in your user preferences — start your day on the order queue instead of the dashboard if you prefer.
  • The activity page has been redesigned, and activity events now record the order and fulfillment they relate to, making history easier to trace.

New Product Data page - barcodes, locations and packer notes in one table

Barcodes, storage locations and packer notes are now managed together on a single Product Data page, instead of three separate pages.

  • See all your product variant data at once — SKU, barcode, storage locations and packer notes — with inline editing throughout.
  • The product columns stay frozen in place while you scroll horizontally through the data columns, so you never lose track of which row you're editing.
  • Spreadsheet import and export cover the whole table.

Sign in to Scanpacker outside the Shopify admin

Your warehouse staff no longer need Shopify admin accounts to use Scanpacker. You can now create local users who sign in directly from a browser with a username and password, and do full warehouse work — checking, packing and shipping.

  • Existing Shopify staff users can also be given a username and password for signing in outside the admin.
  • Each user gets a role, so local users only see what their role allows.
  • Turn on direct sign-in and find your store's login link on the new External Login settings page.

Learn more in our users guide.

Roles and permissions for your team

You can now control what each member of your team can see and do in Scanpacker. Every user has one role, and each role grants a set of permissions — from viewing orders to managing settings.

  • Six built-in roles cover common setups: Administrator, Manager, Supervisor, Operator, Packer and Viewer.
  • Edit the built-in roles or create your own, with granular permissions across orders, checking, shipping, batches, warehouse data, reports and settings.
  • New staff members start with the Packer role, so they can work orders but can't change your configuration.

Learn more in our roles and permissions guide.

Fulfillment Checking - verify fulfillments created outside Scanpacker

Some teams pick and create their fulfillments elsewhere — in the Shopify admin, or in a separate shipping app — and only want Scanpacker for a final barcode check. Fulfillment Checking is built for that.

  • A new Fulfillments tab on the order queue lists recent fulfillments at your location, including ones created outside Scanpacker.
  • Hit Quick Check next to a fulfillment (or scan an order number) and confirm its contents item by item with your barcode scanner.
  • Checked fulfillments are marked with who checked them and when, giving you an independent record that the right items were packed.

Learn more in our fulfillment checking guide.

Flag order issues during checking

When something is wrong with an order — a damaged item, a stock discrepancy, a picking problem — warehouse staff can now flag an issue directly from the checking page, with photos attached.

  • Flagging an issue puts the order on hold until a supervisor resolves it with a note, so problem orders can't be accidentally shipped.
  • Supervisors are notified by email, and a dedicated order issues page lists open and resolved issues.
  • Issue status is visible on order lists, so everyone can see which orders are held and why.
May 31, 2026

Packer notes - per-product instructions shown while checking

You can now attach a packer note to any product variant — special handling instructions, "check the expiry date", "fragile", or anything your packers need to see. The note is displayed prominently whenever that item comes up during checking.

  • Edit notes inline from the Product Data page, or bulk import and export them with an XLSX spreadsheet.
  • Notes are stored as Shopify metafields, so they stay with your product data.
May 25, 2026

Record picking notes while checking orders

Warehouse staff can now record a picking note against a product while checking an order — for example to report a low stock level, a damaged batch, or a mislabelled shelf.

  • Notes are emailed to your chosen recipients as they're recorded, so problems surface immediately.
  • A new picking notes page lists all recorded notes, filterable by product, storage location and date.
  • A count badge in the navigation shows notes that need attention.
Apr 24, 2026

Order availability - see which orders you can fulfill with current stock

The new order availability page shows which of your pending orders can be fully fulfilled, partially fulfilled, or have no stock available — before you start checking.

  • Every pending order is classified as Ready, Partial or No stock based on current inventory levels, walking your queue oldest-first so stock is allocated the same way you'd pick it.
  • Use it to plan your day, spot stock shortages early, and decide which orders to prioritize.
  • Select ready orders directly from the page to start batch picking them.

Learn more in our availability guide.

Check orders split across multiple locations

Scanpacker now fully supports Shopify orders whose items are assigned to different fulfillment locations.

  • Each part of a split order can be started, checked and fulfilled separately at its own location.
  • When an order has multiple fulfillments at your location, tabs on the checking page let you switch between them.
  • Partial shipping now correctly splits the fulfillment, leaving the remaining items ready to check later.
Feb 5, 2026

Guided batch picking

You can now pick items for multiple orders in a single pass through your warehouse. Batch picking combines a group of orders into one guided picking session, with a dedicated cart slot (a bin or tote with a scannable label) for each order.

  • Create a batch by selecting specific orders, or let Scanpacker automatically batch the next pending orders in your queue.
  • Scanpacker guides you through the warehouse, telling you which item to scan and which slot to deposit it in.
  • Back at the packing bench, scan each slot's label to bring up the corresponding order for shipping.
  • Configure your batch size and slot names in settings, and print scannable slot labels for your picking cart.

Learn more in our batch picking guide.

Dec 12, 2025

Upload a spreadsheet to bulk update product barcodes

You can now bulk update product barcodes by uploading a spreadsheet from the Storage Locations or Barcodes pages. Previously, spreadsheet upload only supported storage locations.

Your spreadsheet needs at minimum a column identifying each variant (SKU, variant ID or existing barcode) and a column with the barcode value to set. After uploading, you choose how to identify variants and map your columns to the correct fields — a sample spreadsheet is available in the import dialog, and Import History shows results and any errors.

Scanning and fulfillment screens have been reorganized

We've reorganized the scanning and fulfillment pages. Most of the changes rearrange existing options to make room for future feature enhancements.

  • Picking and shipping are now two separate screens. In normal use you transition between them automatically as you scan the items in each order.
  • Once an order is fully scanned (or partial shipping is chosen), it is considered "picked" and the shipping screen shows a compact summary of the fulfillment along with shipping options such as tracking number input and customer notification. Scanpacker remembers the picked status if you return to the order later.
  • The "Ship partial pick" and "Save as packed for later" options now live in the dropdown menu next to the "Go to shipping" button on the picking page.
  • The "Notify customer" checkbox has moved to the dropdown next to the "Create fulfillment" button on the shipping page.
  • The option to tag Shopify orders after picking has moved to its own Order Tagging settings page.

New settings, import improvements, and mobile fixes

New features:

  • A new setting controls whether "packed" tags are removed from orders after fulfillment.
  • Storage location spreadsheet import now supports matching products by SKU or barcode as well as Shopify variant ID. This helps when importing data from existing spreadsheets or data exported from other applications.

Recent bug fixes:

  • Fixed an issue that prevented mobile camera scanning from functioning correctly.
  • Fixed the "View in Shopify" menu item on mobile screen sizes.
Feb 11, 2025

New Activity Page - view, filter and export detailed checking and fulfillment activity

The new Activity Page, available under Settings → Activity Data, gives you a complete historical record of order starting, scanning, fulfillment and tagging events.

  • Trace past activity – quickly find specific fulfillment events for particular orders, locations or staff members.
  • Custom filtering – select a specific timeframe and particular event types.
  • Excel export – download your data for in-depth reporting and analysis.

Whether you need to verify an order's journey or generate reports on fulfillment efficiency, the Activity Page provides the data you need.

Scan History dialog, barcode label updates and bug fixes

New features:

  • A "Scan History" overlay can be opened from the scan page, showing all barcodes scanned so far for the current order, including match status.
  • When an erroneous barcode is scanned, the scanned barcode now remains on screen for easier diagnosis.

Improvements:

  • UPC-A and EAN-13 barcode interoperability has been improved. Many barcode readers convert EAN-13 barcodes back to a 12 digit North American UPC-A barcode when possible. Scanpacker now matches those scans against either a UPC-A or EAN-13 barcode stored in your Shopify account.
  • The standard barcode label format now additionally supports 2 inch wide labels.
  • Missing or incorrect barcodes can now be fixed directly from the scan order page, using the "Edit Barcode" option on the line item.
  • The orders page is now quicker for users with subscription orders in a "Scheduled" fulfillment state.
  • The displayed number of pending orders is more accurate for shops with a large (>100) number of pending orders.

Bug fixes:

  • Long feedback and error messages are no longer truncated on the Shopify mobile app.
  • Fixed issue when searching for product titles containing a "%" character.

Manage warehouse storage locations

  • You can now use Scanpacker to manage warehouse storage locations for your products, either by uploading multiple locations with a spreadsheet file or by adding locations manually from the Storage Locations page. Learn more in our online guide.
Jun 1, 2024

Scanning progress is saved as you go

  • Progress when scanning an order is now saved as you go. Return to the same order within 30 minutes to continue scanning where you left off. This allows edits to be made to complex orders without restarting the scanning process from scratch.
  • Background changes to order content now update automatically on order and scan pages.
May 28, 2024

Payment terms support

  • Payment terms present on an order are now displayed in Scanpacker.
  • Orders with payment terms are now automatically started and are fulfillable as part of the standard workflow.
  • Settings relating to orders with payment terms have been added to the Order Queue settings page.
Apr 30, 2024

Tracking number entry and user display names

  • Tracking numbers can now be entered at scanning/fulfilment time.
  • A display name can be set for each Shopify user, from their user preferences in Scanpacker, and will be shown on activity data.
  • The user that created a fulfillment is now displayed next to fulfillments created with Scanpacker.
Mar 6, 2024

Manual quantity entry for large quantities

  • Manual quantity entry is now possible for order quantities of more than 10 of the same product. After scanning a single item, an edit quantity button becomes available.
  • Bug fix: Alphanumeric barcodes containing spaces (for example a Code39 SKU barcode) are now read correctly.
Feb 29, 2024

Cash on Delivery and unpaid order scanning options

  • Orders with Cash on Delivery payment terms (Shopify calls this "Due on Fulfillment") can now be included in the standard order-by-order workflow, via a new option on the Order Queue settings page.
  • Order payment terms are now displayed within Scanpacker.
  • A new "Allow scanning of any unpaid order" setting adds a "Start anyway..." button to unstarted, unpaid orders, regardless of the order's payment terms.
Feb 15, 2024

Tag scanned orders instead of creating a fulfilment

  • You can now tag your scanned orders rather than create a fulfilment. A "packed" tag is added to correctly scanned orders, and you can find and process those orders as you wish through the Shopify admin.
Dec 12, 2023

Inline order notes and unpaid order visibility

  • Order notes are now editable inline, so you won't lose existing scans when you need to make a quick note on an order.
  • Unpaid orders are now shown in the orders list (but remain excluded from the automatic shipping workflow). This avoids confusion when getting started with Scanpacker. You can hide unpaid orders again from your Settings page.
  • Bug fix: Fixed a bug that prevented the built-in barcode scanner opening when using Scanpacker through the Shopify Android mobile app.
Dec 2, 2023

Control customer shipment notifications

  • You can now choose whether the customer is notified (usually by email) when you fulfil an order, using a checkbox on the fulfil order page. A global default can be set from the Settings page.
Nov 27, 2023

Treat SKUs as scannable barcodes

  • Product SKUs can now be treated as additional scannable barcodes when checking orders. Enable "Treat SKUs as scannable barcodes" in your Scanpacker settings.
  • The location selection drop-down now shows both started and unstarted order counts, making it easier to see the full state of pending order queues.
Nov 22, 2023

Order search fixes and clearer handling of unpaid orders

  • Bug fix: Order search now works when searching on customer name.
  • Bug fix: Fixed an issue affecting the "Unstart & Start Next" button.
  • Unpaid or part-paid orders are more clearly marked as unshippable, and are better protected from accidental processing.
  • A helpful notification is shown when a barcode is scanned while viewing an "unstarted" order.
Nov 16, 2023

Improved barcode scanning feedback

  • The graphical feedback when barcode scanning has been improved, making it easier to see what barcode was scanned and when. The visual feedback for "over-scanned" items has also been improved.
  • Using the "Fulfil with Scanpacker" action from the Shopify admin now behaves better on orders that are already fulfilled, unpaid, or otherwise unfulfillable.
